Tom Price doesn’t get it when it comes to robocalls.
I recently signed a petition and sent a note to GA Rep. Tom Price regarding H.R. 3035. This bill (among other things) would allow politicians to make unsolicited automated recorded phone calls (or Robocalls) to private cell phones without prior consent.
Congressman Price responded to my comments with a letter. His response was frustrating. Particularly this quote:
“Although informative calls to cell phone subscribers can be used for positive purposes, we must also respect the consumer’s privacy if they do not wish to receive these calls.”
This isn’t about privacy. It’s about consent and permission, and it’s about politicians licensing themselves to use my cell phone, at my expense, for their convenience.
The Congressman’s response is clearly stating a position that consumer’s should have the ability to opt out of robocalls. I’d like to see the Congressman commission a study to see if anyone in the world wants to receive robocalls in the first place.
I don’t understand why Representative Price feels that politicians should have the right to make these unsolicited robocalls, when marketers should not.
Okay. I do understand it. But I wish I didn’t.
Congressman—I supported you in your first election. You were an outsider with an honest perspective and a focus on your constituents as opposed to politics. Has Washington converted you, too?
